The Corporate program is still fresh in my mind. For me there were two distinctive layers of perception. The first one was about content. A full spectrum of targeted resources I never used, because I haven't done any approach of the corporate arena. The second layer was about style. This is where I got my kick and learning. I learned that coaching is above all a matter of style, as in any other form of Art.

Neil and Vicki's style was - I am sure it still is - a graceful, seriously witty, honest to God childlike fun and creativity. More than what it takes to be liked and trusted; transparency of intent, openness, joyfulness and perfect efficiency. Some Higher Inspiration is certainly at play in their work, I call it style. I am afraid that without style, coaching reverses into stultifying boredom. Neil and Vicki implicitly demonstrated that effective coaching is 80% style, the rest flows naturally.

I have been using the tools within group environments over the last 2 weeks (the Iceberg, imposed / chosen change 2x2 & the change curve) as the starting point for some presentations that the teams then get about some process changes that they need to implement. I have had great feedback & most importantly it has had a great impact on their reception to change & their thinking about things - especially as many of them are in a 'negative slump' at this stage (2+ months into the company transition). |
