   motivation top tips

Chris Hughes is a Training Consultant and delivers the Team Leader and Management Training modules on our Management Modern Apprenticeship.

1.Praise & Acknowledge - “Only Mushrooms grow in the dark” – Without constant praise and feedback your team performance will become stagnant. Let them know how they are doing by ongoing coaching and this will make them feel valued, maintaining and increasing performance levels. Issue feedback in a constructive manner by concentrating on the positives.

2.Challenge & Invest -
“People are more committed to their own ideas” - Ask your team members how they feel they are performing – is there anything they could be doing better and if so what are their ‘options’ to improve. Constantly invite them to comment on their own performance and look to challenge and stimulate them. Investing this time will again aid in increasing performance levels.

3.Understand & Involve - “All of us are better than one of us” - Get to know your staff and what makes them ‘tick’, take an interest in them and make time for each and every one. Involve them in all decision making and do not enforce anything as there may well be resistance. Celebrate success publicly and this will again encourage future involvement.

  Eye Witness Account

Dave Lewis, Trainer from Enabling Chance, gives his eye witness account on his second visit to us at t2 business solutions.

“I came to Melrose Hall today to train a course in the Indus room, and was contracted in by Tailored Solutions. I travelled from Nantgarw, so didn't need to come far. "

“My first impression of Melrose Hall was that it was a great location. The facilities were great, and the staff were veryfriendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and airy, and was ideal to have refreshments set up for us when we arrived. All extras were provided, such as a flip chart and pads for the delegates
."

“I would definately return to Melrose Hall. This was my second visit and the servie was once again outstanding, as were the facilities.”

Introducing ...The Coach
It is that time of year again, when most of us make New Year's resolutions, whether they are of a personal nature such as becoming healthier, giving up smoking, losing weight or of a business nature, such as giving the business a new direction, setting and achieving growth targets, employing new staff, having a better work-life balance or reducing stress levels, here are my top tips to making a success of them.

1.Make a New Year resolution that really means something to you. Ask your self the questions "why am I doing this?" or "Why is it so important to me that i achieve this?". This is youre resolution so make it personal.
2. Set yourself up for success by making your goal a positive and defined one, use detail, times, places and to make it more
compelling use the present tense.
3. Make your goal one that you have to work at and that bring you just out of your comfort zone but that is achievable, not one that will overwhelm you because it is too ambitious or bore you because it is not stretching you enough.
4.Write it down and keep it somewhere where you can see it and remind yourself of it regularly.
5. Give yourself an achievable deadline to achieve your main goal and give yourself targets that will bring you

closer to the end goal.Reward yourself when you achieve them.
6.Be prepared. Identify any obstacles or blockages that you may encounter along the way and devise strategies to overcome them.
7.Create an action plan and start working on it today.

8. Be flexible. Be prepared to make changes as you go along to cope with the unforeseeable.
9.Focus on your goal. Ignore interference, from the media, from other people, who although well meaning may not fully appreciate the significance of you achieving your goal.
10.Keep a journal to record your progress, this will help you keep your motivation levels high
11. Enjoy the ride
