t2's Achiever of the Quarter Announced

Gareth Collins has been awarded t2’s Achiever of the Quarter award for his recent completion of a Level 3 IT Modern Apprenticeship.

Having worked hard for four years to gain the qualification, Gareth completed his Modern Apprenticeship in February.

A Data Analyst at Office for National Statistics, Gareth’s responsibilities include investigating data anomalies; keeping comprehensive records of all actions taken; maintaining accurate business details on a register of UK businesses; contributing to the efficient running of the branch; regularly reviewing processes and, where appropriate, offer recommendations for improvement.

Gareth said: “I took the IT Modern Apprenticeship to continue my own personal development towards building a successful career in the Public sector. I am highly motivated to do the best that I can, even though the course took so long to complete. I was determined to complete the course and that is why I eventually undertook the majority of the work in my free time after work and on annual leave.

“As it was important to ensure I was always on the right track, I liaised with my Personal Development Management (PDM) on a regular basis to discuss the work I carried out. His feedback would then advise if I was heading in the right direction of if improvements were required.

“During the course I enjoyed working on the spreadsheets and continuously improving the IT solution, to ensure it would help my colleagues improve their workload. I learned an awful lot using Excel throughout the course which enhanced my enjoyment.

“I would definitely do further learning if it improved my chances to develop a career here at Office for National Statistics. I am eager to continuously improve and learn new skills.

“I would advise other Modern Apprenticeship learners to work hard and not to be scared to ask for advice from their PDM’s or colleagues. It is important to stay motivated due to the length of time it takes to complete the course but it is worth it in the end.”
