t2 Employee Selected for Great Britain Rugby Squad
A t2 business solutions employee has been selected as one in 24 players to represent Great Britain on a rugby league tour later this year.
Administration Assistant, Anthony Symons, who has been working for t2 for almost a year, is currently preparing himself for a month long rugby league tour of Australia.
Anthony, 18, currently a prop for Celtic Crusaders, Bridgend, already has international experience behind him, after a three week rugby union tour to South Africa three years ago with Cardiff Schools. He has already won three caps for Great Britain, including his debut match against the Australian Institute of Sport, where he was named Man of the Match.
His determination and hard work keeps him busy seven days a week, working full-time at t2 business solutions and on weekends as Nightclub Door Security. He trains twice a week with Celtic Crusaders, and once a fortnight with Great Britain, which will soon be increased to weekly.
Anthony has already experienced a successful year in rugby league with the Celtic Crusaders, who won the Gillette National Youth League Championship after defeating Leigh Miners Rangers.
Beginning his rugby career in rugby union, Anthony made a move to rugby league, joining the Blackwood Bulldogs. When Celtic Crusaders held open try-outs for their first Under 18’s squad, he secured himself a place before the Great Britain trials began.
Anthony said: “It is a great honour to be picked to represent Great Britain. I was overwhelmed to hear the news, especially as I had only played seven games at senior level when I was selected, but am relishing the chance to take the next step in international rugby.
“Although I am anxious about the tour, I am definitely looking forward to the chance to play against the best youngsters in the World. It is an exciting opportunity for me and I am determined to make Great Britain proud.”
Great Britain are scheduled to play six games on the other side of the world; two full tests, three against a regional team and one against the development squad.
Rob Marr, Managing Director of t2 business solutions said: “We are thrilled to hear of Anthony’s success on the pitch and wish him the best of luck on the tour to Australia at the end of July.
“He is very dedicated and deserves the success he is achieving. All of t2 is behind him, especially on the Australian tour, and wish good luck to the entire squad.”
